A Composer’s Dream: The Karanyi Sounds Story

Four years ago, we began our journey as a company with a simple mission: to create awesome-sounding soft synths. Since then, we have grown from a hobby project to an international startup with a group of music professionals and artists. This is how our story started.

Our founder and CEO, Dani Karanyi, has always been passionate about music. As an accomplished composer and producer, he understood what it would take to create truly innovative sounds and deliver high-quality instruments that everyone could enjoy. Drawing upon his many years of experience in the music scene, Dani started his company with a clear vision for success. And in just a few short years, we have become one of the fastest-growing brands in the software instrument industry.

The Man Behind Sounds

Karanyi Sounds were founded in 2018 by music producer, media composer, and UI designer Dani Karanyi. Dani started his music career in 2001: he started to develop his own style by fusing elements of synthesizer-heavy film scores and electronica. His first album, “Oktogon,” was released in 2002 and received critical acclaim. Since then, Dani has released four more studio albums, and numerous radio hits. Also, his tracks have been remixed by Stephan Bodzin, Nicola Fasano, and more. His last album called Stardive (which follows the story of a handful of people who return back to Earth after a nuclear war in 2200) is heavily inspired by the 80s synthesizer soundtracks.

Karanyi studied Music in Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music, where he had the opportunity to learn from Hollywood composer Pinar Toprak (Captain Marvel, Justice League, Fortnite). Since then, Dani has composed music for a number of short films, and independent games.

As a media composer, Dani is working with many classic and modern analog synths daily. As he became tired from patching his favourite synths all the time, he started to sample his go-to sounds in the studio. This personal collection of unique sounds was named Synths DX (stands for Director’s Cut).

Synths DX included multi-sampled analog and digital synths from Dani’s personal hardware collection such as various Moog, Oberheim, Roland, and Sequential Circuit synths which have been used for his “Overlanders” Nintendo Switch video game score and on several animated short films. The early days of Synth DX were just a hobby project for Dani, but after encouragement from fellow musicians, he decided to release it as a commercial product. The super minimal and extensive sounding synth instantly became successful with over 12 000 downloads in one month! The instrument was featured on synthtopia.com, ask.audio, Future Music, and more. The next month, in may 2018 Karanyi Sounds Ltd. is formed.

But the story of how Karanyi Sounds started is much more than just one man’s success. In recent years, many audio professionals joined our team along with production specialists, and developers to create unique plugins. Karanyi Sounds is more than just a company; it’s an international family with over fifteen people. We have gathered together people from all over the world who are interested in one thing: sound and vision.
